Moteurs d'avions
La guerre a éclaté. La fabrication de voitures est coupée.
Rolls-Royce est engagé dans la fabrication de moteurs d'avions, principalement le Eagle.
Puis les USA entrent en guerre à leur tour. EW Hives dirigera une équipe en Amérique pour aider à la production de moteurs d'avions avec Maurice Olley, le concepteur et Thomas Nadin, un ingénieur de production. Claude Johnson lui-même se rendra sur place.
Claude Johnson
Durant sa visite en 1917, à l'équipe "aviation", celui-ci décida d'acquérir des locaux pour se séparer de Brewster. Ces nouvelles installation seront sur Ely Avenue à Long Island (non loin de Brewster)
Alan Royce
Alan (le frère de James et cousin d'Henry Royce), rencontre Claude Johnson à New York. Ils décident d'incorporer Rolls-Royce au projet de moteur d'avion "Liberty"... avec d'autres constructeurs automobiles.
Schuette
Pendant les hostilités, la concession Robert Schuette survit en rachetant des chassis utilisés et en les rénovant.
Au retour de la paix, Schuette et Brewster importent jusqu'à 100 voitures. En 1919, on comptait 378 Rolls-Royce à New York... avant que commence la production américaine !
Lawrence d'Arabie
Dans son livre "Les sept piliers de la sagesse" Lawrence d'Arabie disait que "Dans le désert une Rolls-Royce est un trésor plus précieux que des rubis".
Et à un journaliste qui lui demandait quel vœu il ferait s'il pouvait avoir ce qu'il voulait : "Une Rolls-Royce et assez de pneus et d'essence pour rouler jusqu'à la fin de mes jours."

The Abilene Ghost
La châssis n° 15LB a été surnommée "The Abilene Ghost" après avoir été longtemps exposée dans le hall de l'Abilene National Bank au Texas.
